Gloop Pavilion [ projects, , commerce ]
Gloop is an experiment in merging communication and dwelling. It is about making an intimate space into a communicative interface. Gloop is playing on the inherent tension between inside and outside, but translating this into a more contemporary digital form. Using modern means of interaction, like multi touch screens and lcd monitors, as a building material we try weave the properties of the internet into the fabric of a building.
Building on the foundations of social networks, user generated content and the programmable web, we propose a building, strategically located at Stadionplein in Amsterdam, that is able to actually communicate with its environment, but can also be used as a communication tool. Instead of broadcasting a simple message on a screen, Gloop interacts and enable interaction. In Gloop we have made the facade actually programmable. It can be used as a communal messaging board, but also as a creative outlet for inhabitants or neighbors.
Ideally the facade will function as a social network in the sense that the community of neighbors, passers by, and inhabitants create a self regulating network of content providers that enriches the urban experience for everyone that is confronted with the building.
