GREEN ISLANDS STADIUMS [ projects, public, urban ]

Our competition proposal for 3 stadiums in Velenje is based on the concept of a permeable, city-park like experience for the visitors and for the local dwellers. The proposal is merging urban agendas with landscape and architecture into an integrated system with scattered-in-the forest playgrounds and stadiums.

Together with MAT Studio architects, Vista landscapers and ABT engineers we came to a proposal for a development of a sport park in the city of Velenje (Slovenia). The actual proposal is based on the conversion of the existing green area along the artificial lake, with already existing sport facilities, into a mix-used city-like sport park.

We have introduced a principle of a green island, which allows considering indoor- and outdoor stadiums and playgrounds equally. New football stadium, conversion- and extension of the existing football into an indoor-and outdoor athletic stadiums, new indoor multipurpose hall and various outdoor sport-fields are the main elements of the new master-plan proposal.



All the stadiums have a direct view and the access to the lake, with the intention to bring the city lifelines into this lake shore territories. Landscaped routes are leading towards the entrances of the stadiums and are opening vistas to the lake.



The proposal is based on the development in phases, each island carrying an independent development, which contributes to a system as a whole and the other way around.
